Ms. Trapp graduated from the School of Law at the University of South Carolina in 1991. During her time there she was part of the South Carolina Law Review, which is the oldest and principal legal publication in South Carolina and one of the most cited legal journals in the country. After graduation, she became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for South Carolina in 1994. During her time there she won two Inspector General Awards, as well as the highest award from the Department of Energy and the highest award from the U.S. Attorney General.

During her time as Assistant U.S. Attorney, she focused on whistleblower and False Claims Act cases. She was a part of the Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) department for the district of South Carolina since its inception and worked for 23 years on cases involving larger corporations such as Westinghouse, Lockheed Martin, and United Airlines. In 2012, Ms. Trapp was a part of a $95 million settlement involving the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers where it was determined that the defendants knowingly violated the False Claims Act.
